A Meta-Analysis of Counselor¡¯s Factors Affecting the Working Alliance in Psychotherapy

Abstract
The aim of the study is to perform a thorough and systematical analysis of counselor¡¯s factors that are affecting the working alliance during psychotherapy. Firstly, the overall effect size of the variables related to counselors¡¯ factors that influence the working alliance showed a large effect size(.529). Secondly, the effect size of the protective factors(.541) showed a large effect size. Among protective factors, the effect size of counselor¡¯s competence(.582) was in order before attitude during counseling(.525) and individual characteristics of a counselor(.512). Thirdly, the effect size of the risk factors among counselors¡¯ factors that influence working alliance(-.502) showed a large effect size. Among risk factors, the effect size of disruptive behavior during counseling(-.621) was in order before counselor¡¯s individual internal characteristic(-.421). This study attempted to comprehensively understand counselors¡¯ factors that influence the working alliance in psychotherapy. The findings are anticipated to contribute to academic advancements and enhance counselors¡¯ skills by guiding future research endeavors.
